FluentFlags ("we," "our," or "us") operates the FluentFlags mobile application (the "App") and the fluentflags.com website (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our services.

We are committed to your privacy. The FluentFlags mobile app is designed with a local-first architecture — your game data stays on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Mobile App — Local Data Only

The FluentFlags mobile app stores all data locally on your device using SQLite and AsyncStorage. This includes:

• Game statistics (scores, accuracy, streaks)
• Game session history
• Flag learning progress and mastery levels
• Achievement progress
• Activity heatmap data
• Display name you choose
• App settings and preferences (theme, sound, haptics)
• A locally generated player ID (UUID) for internal data keying

None of this data is transmitted to our servers. All data is lost if you uninstall the app, as is standard for casual mobile games.

2.2 Website

The FluentFlags website uses Firebase Authentication for user accounts. When you create an account on the website, we store:

• Email address and display name
• Game statistics and session history
• Achievement progress
• Leaderboard scores

2.3 Analytics

The website uses Vercel Analytics to collect anonymized usage data such as page views and general traffic patterns. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. The mobile app does not include any analytics services.

3. Platform Services

3.1 Apple Game Center & Google Play Games

The mobile app integrates with Apple Game Center (iOS) and Google Play Games Services (Android) for leaderboard functionality. When you use leaderboards:

• Your scores are submitted to the respective platform service
• Your display name is shown on platform-managed leaderboards
• These services are operated by Apple and Google respectively, and are subject to their own privacy policies

Leaderboard participation is optional. You can use the app without signing into Game Center or Play Games.

3.2 In-App Purchases

The mobile app offers a single optional "Pro" upgrade via in-app purchase, processed through Superwall and the respective platform's payment system (Apple App Store or Google Play Store). We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple or Google.

4. How We Use Information

• Mobile App: All data is used locally on your device to provide gameplay features, track your progress, and personalize your experience. We do not access, process, or store any of this data on our servers.
• Website: Account data is used to provide gameplay features, leaderboard functionality, and multiplayer experiences.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties. The only external data transmission from the mobile app is leaderboard score submissions to Apple Game Center or Google Play Games, which occurs only if you are signed into those services.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

• Mobile App: All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all data. There is no cloud backup or sync.
• Website: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at the email listed below.
• Leaderboard Data: Scores submitted to Apple Game Center or Google Play Games are managed by those platforms and subject to their data retention policies.

7. Children's Privacy

FluentFlags is an educational game suitable for all ages (rated Everyone). The mobile app does not collect any personal information from any user, including children under 13. The website does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information on the website, please contact us.

8. Security

Since the mobile app stores all data locally on your device, data security depends on your device's built-in security features (device lock, encryption). For the website, we use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure authentication through Firebase.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict processing of your data
• Data portability

For the mobile app, you have full control over your data as it is stored entirely on your device. For the website, contact us to exercise any of these rights.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App or Website after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
